When purchasing a property it is vitally important to obtain good independent professional advice. The advice you receive may save you many thousands of pounds or may even help you renegotiate the purchase price to take account of any essential repairs. Alternatively if there are serious structural problems, the results of a quality survey report may help you decide whether or not to proceed.
However it is important to instruct a fully independent Surveyor. If you chose to instruct a Surveyor who is also appointed by your mortgage lender, that Surveyor will primarily be advising your bank or building society, and your needs and best interests may become a secondary consideration. It is far better to obtain fully independent advice.
